Message From President

Dear Friends:

What a wonderful year it has been here at PGI, full of accomplishments, the achievement of goals related to our Strategic Plan, and many blessings.  Our faculty and students bring together the rich diversity of the psychological disciplines, from Marriage and Family Therapy to Clinical Psychology, from School Counseling and School Psychology to Organizational Consulting and MFT/Art Therapy.  We are so proud of our students and faculty, the foundation of our community.

Phillips has had a very busy year.  In October, we hosted the Latino Family Therapy Symposium, where the spotlight was on our outstanding retention rates for those Latino families, couples and individuals we serve.  The success of this program is based on our unique Spanish immersion training as well as the excellent service of our California Family Counseling Center (CalFam) staff, interns and students provide. What an exciting and well-attended event it was.

In June, our Marriage and Family Therapy Program embarked on an exploration of the future of the discipline of Marriage and Family Therapy with the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).  More recently, Phillips, along with the Phillips Alumni Association and CalFam, has launched a new effort at community service, the Communications Bureau, to help local nonprofits and businesses locate quality speakers on a variety of topics that our Phillips alumni, interns and students can provide.  We know that each of the speakers will represent the Phillips community well.

This year, the Organizational Consulting Doctoral Program launched “The Center for Business Innovation.”  This consulting center will provide business and management consulting services to local businesses, academic institutions and nonprofit/charitable organizations while providing training and professional development opportunities for the doctoral students in the Organizational Consulting Program.  The mission of the Center is to assist businesses and organizations in developing strategies that enhance their effectiveness and success in a changing global economy by improving their business outcomes through the development of solutions and innovations based upon research and evaluation.

I am also excited to report that PGI, as the fiscal entity for the MFT Consortium of Southern California, was designated as the sole source contractor for the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health MFT Stipend Program. This support is designed to encourage bilingual and culturally competent MFT interns to serve in community mental health organizations. We take our commitment to diversity very seriously as we continue to provide leadership in bringing more therapists from underrepresented groups or with specific cultural competencies into the various fields of mental health.

This is just some of our good news as we move forward, full of potential and promise of opportunities to educate and train our students and serve our community.

Warm regards,

Lisa Porché-Burke, Ph.D.President
